Nicky Bidju Pryor’s Powerful First Nations Mural

At Townsville Shopping Centre, we are proud to celebrate and honour the cultural heritage of our First Nations communities and the Traditional Owners of the land we are on.

Have you seen local artist and legend, Nicky Bidju Pryor’s show stopping mural? Nicky brings the rich culture and roots of our First Nations communities to life. This vibrant artwork beautifully showcases totems from both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, symbolising unity and shared heritage.

In close collaboration with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Nicky’s design tells a powerful story. On the left, local Aboriginal totems are represented, while on the right, Torres Strait Islander totems stand proudly. These elements are woven together with intricate circles and dots, a hallmark of Nicky's distinctive style. At its core, a plaque stands in recognition of the Traditional Owners of this land, a tribute to their enduring connection.
