Townsville Tough: Our Homegrown Heroes

When things get rough, Townsville digs deep. That’s Townsville Tough

We asked you to nominate homegrown heroes who stepped up during the recent severe weather and floods—and wow, you delivered. We're proud to reward 5 local legends with a $100 Townsville Shopping Centre gift card. It's our way of recognising our small-town resilience, celebrating our community and supporting our locals.

Meet our Homegrown Heroes, as voted by the community!

Connor Gregory

Connor Gregory embodies what it means to be a hero. From filling hundreds of sandbags to cleaning up the roads and common fishing areas to protect people and wildlife, he truly went above and beyond. A dedicated Rover Scout, Connor didn’t just help out in his spare time; he organised other Rovers to pitch in, sandbagging from Friday night through to Sunday. He may say it's "just his job as a Scout," but his selflessness and dedication to his community make him a hero in our eyes. Connor, we see you, and we thank you!

She opened the local hall, sourced donations, and worked tirelessly to help those in need—even when her own family was affected. Susan, your unwavering dedication to your community is a true inspiration. Thank you for everything you’ve done!

Josh didn’t stop there—he also offered to help others clean up after the floods. Whether it was helping clear properties or offering a helping hand, Josh and his sons demonstrated that heroism doesn’t always come in the form of grand gestures; sometimes, it’s just about showing up and helping your neighbours.
