Townsville Tough: Our Homegrown Heroes
When things get rough, Townsville digs deep. That’s Townsville Tough.
We asked you to nominate homegrown heroes who stepped up during the recent severe weather and floods—and wow, you delivered. We're proud to reward 5 local legends with a $100 Townsville Shopping Centre gift card. It's our way of recognising our small-town resilience, celebrating our community and supporting our locals.
Meet our Homegrown Heroes, as voted by the community!

Connor Gregory
Nominated by Dan Purdie MP, Selena, Ann Caldwell
Connor Gregory embodies what it means to be a hero. From filling hundreds of sandbags to cleaning up the roads and common fishing areas to protect people and wildlife, he truly went above and beyond. A dedicated Rover Scout, Connor didn’t just help out in his spare time; he organised other Rovers to pitch in, sandbagging from Friday night through to Sunday. He may say it's "just his job as a Scout," but his selflessness and dedication to his community make him a hero in our eyes. Connor, we see you, and we thank you!

Susan Triffitt
Nominated by Kiera Shepherd, Metui Tongatua, Hailey Shepherd, Matilda Gottani
In the wake of the floods, Susan Triffit emerged as a pillar of support for the Mutarnee/Crystal Creek community. Over nine long days, Susan coordinated urgent medication for isolated residents, kept people updated on social media, and organised food, supplies, and even a fun day for kids. She opened the local hall, sourced donations, and worked tirelessly to help those in need—even when her own family was affected. Susan, your unwavering dedication to your community is a true inspiration. Thank you for everything you’ve done!
Tor Buaurai
Nominated by Cassandra
When the weather turned rough, Tor Buaurai didn’t hesitate. Working at Pizza Riviera, Tor pushed through flooded roads and challenging conditions to deliver hot meals to those who needed them most. He didn’t just deliver pizzas because it’s his job; he did it because he knew the importance of comfort food during tough times. His determination to keep people fed and connected, even in the face of danger, shows just how committed he is to our community. Tor, your selflessness hasn’t gone unnoticed!

Josh, Eli & Zavi Solomon
Nominated by Julie Argaet
Josh Solomon and his two young sons, Eli and Zavi, rolled up their sleeves and got to work filling sandbags and delivering them to those in need. Josh didn’t stop there—he also offered to help others clean up after the floods. Whether it was helping clear properties or offering a helping hand, Josh and his sons demonstrated that heroism doesn’t always come in the form of grand gestures; sometimes, it’s just about showing up and helping your neighbours.
